Oh, Lord, there's a lot of work for you to do!

Conversation overheard in the car this morning:

Stuart: Is Jesus alive?
Chase: Yes, he died and came back to life a long, long time ago. Back when there weren't any cars or vacuum cleaners or telephones.
Sabrina: Jesus 'live?
Chase: Yes, see I know more about God than you two do. Well, because my bible is bigger.

So, not sure how I feel about self-righteous living in the big yellow bedroom at our house, but I can pray!

Ingenious!

Daniel Harrell watched the kids for us on Sunday. The boys were getting a little out of hand with the swords so Daniel took them away. He put them out of reach as well—on top of the fan in the dining room! He went to help Sabrina in the back of the house and we he returned the boys were playing with the swords. He asked them how they got the swords, knowing there was no way they could reach them even if they climbed on the table.

Chase says, "We just turned on the fan and they came flying down. Then we played again."

Oh, how simple and still ingenious...

Random Memories

Michael & I were talking last night about the kids and just thought some of these memories were great. They're not really funny, but just things we want to remember.

Winter 2007
Me: Stuart, did you find your shoes in your room?Stu: No, because I didn't fin them, because I didn't look very hard.

When Chase was about 18 months old, he began using the word 'actually' in sentences.

Stuart & Chase got bunk beds Christmas 06. Stuart still asks people to come see his bunk beds, even if they are regular visitors to the house!

Guest Blogger

Ginger took the boys to see the new Dr. Seuss movie, Horton Hears a Who, last weekend. They had a great time. This is Ginger's retelling of their experience.

"I will have to tell you a couple of stories. OK one was hilarious, I might cry-yes the kind where I can't stop, I turn red and don't breathe. OK so one of the characters in the movie is talking about 'other' worlds' sort a imagining what it would be like and she says that in her world we would eat rainbows and poop butterflies. Of course I have to bust a laugh and Chase (because he is 80 yrs old) leans over and says...that would be weird."

"Near the end of the movie Stuart leans over to ask me When are we gonna see Dr. Suess?"

SPF or acidopholis

We've been doing a lot of work in our yard over the last few weeks. Before we go outside we put on suncream. Today Michael put his sunscreen on in the kitchen while we were talking about mulch and the yard and things. I noticed Sabrina was putting some on her face and saying, "I put on my cream. My cream. I put on my cream." And I thought, "How did she get it out of the tube?" I walk over to her and realize, she had gotten plain yogurt off the counter and was rubbing it all over her face! Not sure if that gives the kind of sun protection you need!

Sabrina and Baked Beans

Sabrina loves baked beans; seriously, plain old pork & beans. She has come close to eating an entire can in one sitting. Loves them.

So the Chances are coming over to celebrate Sabrina's 2nd birthday next week (don't worry...this will connect). Lisa asked if she could bring anything and I asked her if she could please bring some of Mike's famous baked beans. Sabrina would be so happy with that! Lisa laughed and agreed to bring the beans. Wednesday night at supper we were discussing Sabrina's birthday (read the previous post!) and that all the Chances—Mike, Lisa, Abbie, Zach, and Ruthie—were coming to her party. I was telling Michael that Mike was bringing his baked beans and Sabrina will be so happy.

Next day...Sabrina & I are off to the grocery and I'm reading my list aloud to Sabrina.
Me: Right, Sabrina, we need juice, Strawberries, baked beans—
Sabrina (interrupting): Zach and Rufie come my birfday party!?

I'm not quite sure how Ruth and Zack are going to feel being connected to baked beans, but it's firmly implanted there. That evening I was recounting the funny story to Michael, and I didn't even have to say Sabrina's part. She interrupted me again with "Zack and Rufie come my birfday party?!"
